David Sklenicka of HC Pilsen has received supplementary disciplinary action for an incident that occurred Saturday in Champions Hockey League action. As a result, he will miss one game.
CHL Sports Board
According to the Arbitrator, and having considered the video evidence, the player David Sklenicka (#9) of HC Pilsen, time 29:51, made contact with an opponent deemed Checking to the Head or Neck Area (IIHF Rule 124).
From the perspective of the CHL Sports Board, Sklenicka made contact with an unsuspecting opponent, with the main point of contact to the head area of the opposing player. As the video shows, Sklenicka is making a body check on an opposing player skating in the opposite direction, creating additional force. With the additional force, it is imperative that Sklenicka makes a body check without the head of the opposing player being the primary contact point. The responsibility is on the player delivering the check, regardless of size differential, to not make contact in the head/neck area of the opponent. The CHL Sports Board elevated the body check to supplementary discipline due to Sklenicka having no regard for the puck and making the principal/main point of contact to the opposing players head. There was an apparent injury to the opposing player.
The CHL Sports Board suspends David Sklenicka (#9) of HC Pilsen for 1 game, effective immediately. He will miss Pilsen's last group-stage game on 8 September against the Stavanger Oilers. Should Pilsen qualify for the Round of 32, he will be eligible to play.
Key Points:
1. No regard for the puck
2. Principal point of contact to the head area
3. Contact to head was avoidable
4. Not a repeat offender
