The action begins on 16 August with four games: ZSC Lions Zurich – ERC Ingolstadt, Vitkovice Ostrava – Karpat Oulu, Yunost Minsk – BK Mlada Boleslav and HC Kosice – SC Bern. The Group Stage concludes on 11 September, also with four games: Tappara Tampere – Adler Mannheim, IFK Helsinki – Esbjerg Energy, Vienna Capitals – KalPa Kuopio and Sheffield Steelers – Red Bull Salzburg. In between will be 88 games and altogether they will decide which 32 teams advance to the CHL Playoff Stage.
A couple other interesting games of note: the CHL plays its first game in Poland on 17 August with Comarch Cracovia hosting Sparta Prague, and Frolunda Gothenburg begin defence of their European title when they visit Grizzlys Wolfsburg on 19 August.
