“Everything's still open” between JYP & Bern
SC Bern fell behind early at home last Tuesday, giving up two power-play goals to JYP in the first five minutes. If the game had continued that way, they would be in a pretty bad situation now. However, they came back to win 3-2, which gives them a one-goal advantage to start the return game in Jyvaskyla.
“We had a bad start with unnecessary penalties and got punished by them on the power play, but then we got our foot into the game,” said Bern forward Thomas Rufenacht. “In the second period it was a solo by Lasch that got us back into the game. We understood very quickly that we could not let them have chances on the power play.”
We can assume that their game plan heading into this Tuesday's game will be to stay out of the box. Even then, however, it won't be easy.
Ryan Lasch, the CHL's Cramo Top Scorer and NordicBet MVP last season, is now in his third CHL season with his third different team. He has also played in the Finnish Liiga before, so he knows what to expect in Jyvaskyla.
“I think we’ve put ourselves into a good position right now but we know it’s far from over. From my experience, I played over there, it’s going to be a tough game. We’re satisfied with the result here at home but it’s far from over.”
JYP head coach Marko Virtanen said: “In Jyvaskyla the rink is a little bit smaller, so it'll be a fast, tough game between two good teams. Everything's still open.”
