Fresh from their win in Kosice, SC Bern head to Linz to face the Black Wings.
Having met German and Finnish opposition in last season's Champions Hockey League campaign, the Black Wings from Linz now face Swiss side SC Bern in their 2016-17 opening game. Speaking after last year's campaign, Linz coach Rob Daum said that "qualifying for the CHL means you have been successful domestically, so it's always a great thing to aim for." He will aim to take his team a step further and into the Round of 32 this year, and will be boosted by the return of Brian Lebler to the team for this year's CHL.
SC Bern, meanwhile, arrive in Linz having come through a tight game in Kosice with a 6-3 win. While the three-goal cushion will look good on the surface, Bern had to fend off several comeback attempts from the Slovaks to get the points, and all doubtless want to end their road sequence on a high. Simon Moser's clever redirect was one of the highlights of opening-day goals.
