The Champions Hockey League Sports Board has taken disciplinary action based on a play during Saturday's Geneve-Servette–Storhamar Hamar game.
CHL Sports Board
With input from the Arbitrator and upon video review, player Andreas Oksnes (#19) of Storhamar Hamar, at approximately 37:11 of the game played on Saturday, 29 August at Geneve-Servette, made contact with an opponent deemed Checking to the Head or Neck Area – IIHF Rule 124.
From the CHL Sports Board's perspective, it is clear that Oksnes's action requires supplementary discipline. Oksnes altered his skating path, through movement to his left, to make contact with his opponent, having an alternate skating path option available. Immediately before contact, there was elevation into the opponent, leaving the opponent unable to protect himself. The left shoulder of Oksnes, and separation of left arm from his body immediately before and through the contact, made the principal point of contact to the opponents head. This contact to the opponent's head is considered avoidable and was caused through the unimpeded actions of Oksnes. These actions makes the contact illegal.
From the perspective of the CHL Sports Board, Andreas Oksnes is suspended for 1 CHL game, effective immediately.
Key Points:
1. Opponent unable to protect himself.
2. Principal point of contact to opponents head.
3. Contact to opponents head was avoidable.
4. Not a repeat offender.
Oksnes will be unavailable for his team's home game vs Geneve-Servette on Thursday, 3 September. If Storhamar Hamar advance beyond the group stage, he will be eligible to play.
